Healdsburg Museum

Each year the local Healdsburg Museum sponsors a history essay writing contest.  For the Family History Essay Contest Competition 2007, two West Side students won awards. Third grader Julie Yparraguirre, who also won last year, placed first in the Grades 3 & 4 competition, and sixth grader Gina Safford placed first in the Grades 5& 6 category.  Gina wrote her essay about her great grandfather, and Julie wrote about her great, great grandmother. We congratulate our writers, who were honored at a special ceremony.  Their essays were printed in the local newspaper– Healdsburg Tribune–for all to enjoy.

Third graders study local history as part of their history/social science curriculum.  The Healdsburg Museum exhibits on Pomo Indians and Healdsburg history support and enrich the third grade curriculum.
