The West Side Union School District Trustees reached an agreement in principle with Ms. Rima Meechan to serve as our next superintendent/principal.
Ms. Meechan stood out among many qualified applicants to lead the district that is well-known for its unique programs that serve students Transitional Kindergarten (TK) - 6th grade. We anticipate the announcement will be official after our vote on the contract at meeting in May.
Ms. Meechan was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She lived in South America and England before coming to California, which she has called home for 25 years. She graduated from Santa Rosa High School. After attending college at San Francisco State and a graduate program at Sonoma State, Ms. Meechan worked in the Roseland School District for many years as a counselor and as the coordinator of the district-wide counseling program. She then served as the principal of Sheppard Elementary School in the Roseland District. Ms. Meechan was then selected as the superintendent/principal of the River Oak Charter School, where she led the school that serves Pre Kindergarten through 8th grade students for 10 years. She most recently has served as the assistant director of Credo High School. Ms. Meechan also taught in the graduate program for counseling at Sonoma State University for three years. Ms. Meechan is "very excited and honored to be joining her new West Side family.”
We have profound appreciation for all of the staff and community members who responded to the district-wide survey and participated on the community interview panel. Your assistance was instrumental in our successful search for the new district superintendent.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
