September is an important month! Research shows that students who missed 2 to 4 days in September were 5 times more likely than those who missed fewer than 2 days to be chronically absent for the year.

Come join Mrs. Menlove on September 5 at 8:30 in Phoenix Hall to learn more about school attendance.

Please bring your favorite dish and join us for a potluck on Thursday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. in Phoenix Hall.

West Side School is a great supporter of learning outside of the classroom. Attached is a listing of all the traditional West Side field trips. Included are estimates for the per-student cost for these events.
Funding for field trips is not paid for by the state of California. Please budget accordingly to help make these trips possible.

Fundraising for field trips may be done individually by the teacher/classroom. If there is financial need, scholarships are available.

Contest runs through Sept 21, 2019. Telescope winner will be announced Sept 30, 2019.

"Unlike traditional school rankings, which rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance, Niche's rankings provide a real-life view of what it's like to attend a given school," the company said in a news release.

The California Department of Education last week debuted the first mobile app for the California School Dashboard, the accountability system aimed at helping identify strengths and improvement areas for public school districts and schools statewide. The app is free and available to everyone, with the CDE specifically targeting parents and guardians who may have a smartphone but don’t have access to a personal computer with an internet connection. It is available on the iOS App Store, the Google Play Store and the Microsoft Store by searching for “CA Dashboard.”
